Review of Doctor Strange (2016) by The D — 01 Feb 2018
This movie somehow won me over despite it being an extremely straight-forward, mildly bland origin story, perhaps due to it being the first modern super hero flick dealing with magic. Yeah I know, there's Harry Potter, but not in comic book form.
But on top of that, Cumberbatch exerts plenty of charisma for a guy who starts off as an arrogant doctor turned humbled 'mystic arts' wizard. The exploration of the mystic arts itself was somewhat intriguing to keep the interest level peaked.
The film has visually nice set pieces with okay, not spectacular, special effects. Mads Mikkelson provided the best comedic moments, and despite being a generic villain, was one that I enjoyed.
