Review of Doctor Strange (2016) by Jeremiah M — 26 Apr 2017
Although the character roles are predictable for any super hero movie the Hero, the Love Interest, the Friend, and the comedic relief. The cast executes those roles very well. Never letting his British accent slip through Benedict Cumberbatch, the Hero, depicts Dr.
Strange a narcissistic millionaire with nothing to lose well. Showing his true colors in an emotional scene with Strange and his ex-girlfriend resulting in feelings getting crushed. I think Christine throughout the movie is emotional but level headed.
She will be screaming one second performing surgery the next. Rachel McAdams definitely plays not only the Love Interest role extremely well but the role of a strong helper as well. The Friend character Baron is played by Chiwtel Ejiofor later introduced in the movie.
Baron does a good job by pushing Strange's boundaries through the movie but Ejiofor lacks in personality with his character. At some scenes in the movie he's just reading his lines out not really feeling the emotion behind them.
Comedic relief is almost necessary now in these Marvel movies but I think they failed with the character Wong a librarian to the monastery whose humor is being so dry through the entire film until the end where he finally laughs at something that's not even funny.
If you're one that goes these marvel movies for comedic relief I wouldn't advise seeing Dr. Strange, but If you like well executed visual effects and an above average story line then Dr. Strange is for you.
