Review of Doctor Strange (2016) by Colby H — 23 May 2017
Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as yet another unknown Marvel character who got into a car accident and something wrong happens with his hands. So he must go to somewhere in Asia at a magical-monastery type place where he will re-gain his strength. The people at that place see potential in him to battle against people. (led by Mans Mikkelsen's character).
Doctor Strange was a unique entry in the MCU. It is the first to use magic, it is another origin story and it looks really impressive.
When I was in the theater watching this in 3D, I was surprised that a movie could be this good in 3D. What I'm referring to mainly the CGI. There was clearly effort put into it. Benedict Cumberbatch was also decent. He was pretty convincing as the protagonist.
I enjoy the aspect of the entire thing is people teaching him how to use magic, which is displayed well though storytelling, visuals, and last and maybe the least, the script (mainly dialogue). I still had a blast watching it all take place. Which leads me to a flaw. The third act had an abundance of fairly slow moments, or moments that I felt something better could happen and try to be its own movie instead of trying to blend in with the franchise leading up to the highly anticipated, Avengers: Infinity War.
Over all It wasn't bad. There were ways that could've made it better, but it did a load of things right. 4/5 stars.
