Review of Doctor Strange (2016) by Tiberio S — 06 Jun 2018
Absolutely every Disney/Marvel release is a cookie cutter copied formula, conservative and easy for audiences to receive. I liked this one a little better because it played with interdimensional physics and astral projection.
It upped the ante set by Chris Nolan's Inception, twisting cities like a Rubik's Cube while staging eye-opening action, which would otherwise be another CGI battling load blown in your face, just on solid ground.
It also had a stellar performance from Benedict Cumberbatch, who has that classic leading man debonair about him. If it didn't feature one of my favorite actors, Michael Stuhlbarg, I might not have stuck with it.
Add the great Mads Mikkelsen as yet another villain, and you truly have my attention. The third act is a bunch of dumb overblown eye candy like everything else, but a strong first act and decent second is enough to give mild thumbs up.
