Review of Doctor Sleep (2019) by Afm185 — 21 Jun 2020
I don’t even know where to start man. This is one of the most interesting movies I’ve ever seen. I’ll preface everything I say here with the fact that I watched the director’s cut, so I don’t know how much that changed.
I loved this thing. I’ll admit (I need to say here that this movie is sort of divided into chapters) the first I’d say two chapters of this aren’t as good as the rest. I wouldn’t necessarily say hard to get into but after that point, after you start to learn about what’s happening, it becomes truly just fascinating.
The director’s cut is I think over three hours. I was not bored by any of it. Every scene has something to offer. I don’t want to spoil a single thing other than that it’s such a creative sequel to The Shining.
Like it is incredible to me how much it both incorporates that story but is also totally its own thing. I thought the visuals were really great, the acting all around is incredible, most of the characters were developed just the amount they needed to be for you to care and be interested, though I would’ve appreciated a bit more for a few of them, the music is really good.
And it’s kinda scary at times I suppose but there’s a lot more that’s just creepy and I loved those parts. The dialogue for the most part isn’t incredible in every scene, but it’s really damn good.
Like there are some great lines in here. Not particularly memorable, but some great, interesting stuff. This movie just surprised me so much I was not expecting a single thing that happened before it, and I’m so glad this turned out the way it did.
