Review of Doctor Butcher M.D. (1980) by Christopher S — 28 Jan 2008
I have never seen a movie that tries so hard to be another one... They borrowed at least three actors from Zombie Flesheaters, shot the film at the same site, used an exact copy of the church-building for both of the movies climaxes, and countless of other enjoyable thefts from the king of zombie-movies.
Other great laughs are hurled at you like timeless one-liners such as "All cultures has been cannibals". What about the movie then? It takes off great with nice gore and stupid/funny detective work to get the main characters to the island where they team up with a noumber of characters so there can be some people to kill off.
And then comes the cannibals. This should rather be termed a cannibal movie, than a zomie movie... since the cannibals does allmost all the killings. When the zombies appears, they are quite frightening and there are more gore (especially one spectacular scene by the shore, those who have seen it knows which I'm refering to), but somewhere around the end of the movie, all the charm and fun drops.
The zombies are less moodfully scarry for every scene they are participating in... and the last 10 minutes are... confusing. I have no idea what happened, and then it's over. Without any bloody finale.
Still, this movie is a shameless, hilarious, gory cult flick, which I'm sure every zombie/cannibal fan can enjoy.
