Review of Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze (1975) by Jeffrey P — 13 May 2011
Plodding fantasy-adventure has the Man of Bronze searching for the Valley of the Vanished, and the hidden riches therein. Star Ron Ely looks the part, but the film celebrates its hero as if it had been made thirty years earlier (and 'Doc' was still as popular as he was then).
Imagine what "Raiders of the Lost Ark" would be like if it were filmed like an episode of the '60s "Batman" television show with sound work from a "Hercules" movie and music from a college football game.
Bizarre 'comedy' abounds - the villain's stooge sleeps in a giant crib; another character carries a tiny pig with him everywhere he goes. Look for Paul "Breakfast Club" Gleason as Amazing Five member "Long Tom" Roberts!
