Review of Doc Hollywood (1991) by Gary T — 30 Apr 2011
A pleasing film but certainly not a glowing achievement. Fox is a natural and the supporting cast do well to make this big city/small town tale of finding yourself and what truly matters in life, work.
It's a homegrown story and it charms easily but I found the fence motivation lacking and a lot of the emotion was hit and miss from scene to scene. The film couldn't really stand on two legs despite the good moments and clear objective.
But it's easy to see why we forgive the movie its shortcomings, because in the end it's a story that means well.
