Review of Do You Believe? (2015) by Gary V — 03 Apr 2015
Christians usually know that these Christian movies made just for them will most likely have some heavy preaching, bad acting and writing, and some cheese. They'll also get universally panned by secular critics and audiences; as one character says of Sean Astin 's doctor character, they are blind and cannot see.
As Christian movies go, then, I would say this is one of the better offerings. With a few exceptions, the acting was well done from a seasoned cast who still know their way around a shooting script and character analysis, and the writing and story structure was better than many Christian movies I've seen.
I would hope it might help to change the minds of non-Christians who might see it (if there are any other than critics who are paid to see it and then write their predictable and clichéd "preaching to the choir" reviews).
I suppose it's possible, but with this jaded and deluded world, with its noise and muddled thinking, having something like this movie change somebody is unlikely - but all worth it, if it works, like the Christian EMT who prays over a dying humanist, giving him a little wooden cross, and the getting raked over the coals by the guy's widow and the powers that be.
In the end, it all comes down to the title of this movie, "Do You Believe?" and what you do if you answer that question in the affirmative. I do, and proudly so!
