Review of Do the Right Thing (1997) by Ekow F — 08 Jul 2009
My girlfriend is a film major & found it almost taboo when I confessed I hadn't seen Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing. Chancing upon it one day in cable I was presented with one of the best made movies about racial relations in America.
I loved it. Taking of the most controversial topics in the brief history that is America, Spike manages to tell a tale that lays the blame of racial misunderstanding on each & everyone of us and makes a very funny and poignant movie in the same reel.
I dare you to watch this movie & not find yourself in one of these characters. You laugh at his represntation of you & yet your thought will be deeply provoked. Perhaps even more telling is the story behind the making of this movie, a movie that almost never saw the light of projector because.
... You've guessed it..... RACE.
