Review of Do the Right Thing (1997) by Rohit R — 02 Dec 2009
It's definitely better than the disaster that was Crash, but I'm really not sold on this movie as a classic. It's certainly not timeless for one, the cartoonish milieu looks like something out of the Fresh Prince.
It deserves some credit for at least attempting to maturely look at race with a bit of perspective, though it really breaks no new ground on the matter at all. Yes, racism is complicated. Often times, black people are racist too.
Mmhmm. Sometimes racial tensions cause violence. Yep. Where does that leave us? Exactly where we've always been, and always will be. And what's the point of saying that?
