Review of Do the Right Thing (1997) by Jack B — 04 Jul 2013

This is one of the most controversial movies of all time, and the movie I have had the hardest time trying to review. Up until the finale, the film is great, it's funny, heartwarming, and a little dramatic.

Then The four idiots come knocking at the door, the finale is just utterly shocking and unforgivable. All the characters ( except Mayor) you come to love and know just go completely crazy and act like wild animals.

The street corner guys are lighting the pizza place on fire, and mother sister is yelling burn the place don, and then there is Mookie. I had already had trouble liking him as a protagonist because you begin to see his darker side, but then he completely just betrays Sal, who was like a father to him.

I feel like as a viewer you are burned in the end, as all along Pino was right, Mookie would stab them in the back. I do not like how the movie just changed so drastically in the matter if two minutes, as after Raheem's death, it's like you are watching a whole other movie.

There were some good things, like the mayor, the camera and photography, and the cast. Lee got his message across, but at the cost of the integrity of his characters.
