Review of Do the Right Thing (1997) by Dustin D — 05 Jul 2015
Lee's joint is a sharp film as it shows the escalation of tensions throughout a day until it explodes in a race riot, without ever getting preachy. The characters, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, are portrayed as complicated and sympathetic.
I don't think Lee's character, Mookie, did "the right thing" at the end, but the movie did get me thinking more than almost any other movie has. In light of recent events, this is as relevant today as it was in 1989.
