Review of Do the Right Thing (1989) by Greg S — 25 Feb 2010
No one in this movie does the right thing. Spike Lee, I think, intends for you to think the main character does, but he certainly does not. The characters are almost entirely a bunch of selfish, violent morons, who are more concerned with appearances and respect than anything else.
The climax revolves around an angry customer who wants pictures of black people in a pizzeria on it's wall of fame - part of it's Italian theme and it's Italian heritage and ownership. Absurd conflict.
Decent drama.
