It's the hottest day of the summer and everyone is a bit on the edge. Especially when everyone lives in the mulitcultural side of Brooklyn with some hidden feelings about eachother. And it only takes one hot day to drive men against eachother.
The talented Spike Lee stars, produces, writes and directs this powerful film about racism and how hate can destroy not only the people we know and care about, but also ourselves. Spike Lee certainly had a lot to say when making this movie. Not just about racism against black people, but how in us ALL we are a little racist. Not one of us is to blame one another, but what we have to do is CHILL.
This film has a powerful message but with no solution. The power of personal perception can make a good man look evil in the eyes of others. Each and every one of these characters in this movie knew eachother for years, and that's why it is so much more heartbreaking when everyone begins to attack one another for reasons that they think are right, but are just the result of hate. And this movie shows the inner wrong that can be in all races in all communities.
Spike Lee makes an important film. A film that is able to portray people as they are. The same. And the films final scene ends beautifuly with two quotes from the two most respected black people whoever lived, and their quotes don't even agree with eachother. That's because this film cannot say what is right or wrong, it can only say that we have our own views and opinions. And in the end, all we can do is try to go through the day and do the right thing.
