Review of Django Unchained (2012) by Kyle C — 26 Jul 2015
So a movie genre I'm not really into, directed by someone I'm not a big fan of and starring an actor I'm not familiar with dealing with a subject I'm not comfortable with, turns out none of that matters because I was just in awe at this, in a good way.
Jamie Foxx & Christoph Waltz (the actor I'm not familiar with) are the two leads and they both have incredible performances in this, but, for me, what stole the show (and not a big shock to me at all) was Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as the villain Calvin Candy, he is outstanding as he continues to be one of the best Actors in Hollywood and one of the best to never win an Acting Oscar (along with Tom Cruise & Joaquin Phoenix).
He is just so amazing in this ranging from the calm, cool, rich snob to the menacing criminal. Now the subject matter is the big question here as it is about slavery which is not my cup of tea, but this one did not bother me as much as other movies in this class.
I'm not the Tarantino movie fan but I can't deny how amazing this movie was, even if it was almost 3 hours, it didn't drag on (except maybe the last 20 min or so but it all makes sense). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for 3 amazing performances.
