Review of Django Unchained (2012) by Yash B — 10 Jun 2014

This movie is both strange and intelligent. I enjoyed the very over the top violence and strong performances from everyone. I can easily see why Christoph Waltz took the Oscar a while back. Along with him Jamie Foxx is great in the title role and DiCaprio provides a wonderful supporting role.

I think the movie feels very long at moments and that makes it drag a bit in a lot of scenes. Nonetheless the film has a strong opening and a spectacular third act. The entire third act makes the film worth your while alone.

I know I'm going to sound pretentious for saying this but I also was hoping the film had more action since it was being noticed for its violence and western style. Still there are a few action scenes and they are stunning for sure.

Ultimately, I think this a fun movie that drags in places but has enough to back that flaw up.
