Review of Django Unchained (2012) by Phil H — 06 Jan 2015
I have seen this twice now, and I am awestruck at what a great movie this is in more ways than one. I have been blown away by Quentin Tarantino many times, but I might have to say that this movie is his crowning jewel.
This movie was a great story. Moreover, it was written and casted so well that I have to completely gush over it. I love the tone that film has compared to digital. I love the artistic manner in which gore is presented.
Christoph Waltz and Jamie Fox are amazing. Leonardo DiCaprio gave a completely oscar winning performance in this. Calvin Candy is so positively bad that he makes me sick, and Leonardo was so convincingly evil.
I'm not happy what happens to some people in the movie, but it probably wouldn't be the same film if it just catered to my sensibilities. Amazing movie. Quentin Tarantino is a standout genius of this era.
When he said "slave bounty hunter," I wanted to see it. When he said, "jews killing nazis," I wanted to see Inglorious Basterds. Genius Genius. Watch!
