Review of Django Unchained (2012) by Stan D — 05 Feb 2015
This film was brilliantly written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, who.
Won the oscar for writing it. It stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz (won best supporting oscar), Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel Jackson (in another great and unusual villainous performance) and Kerry Washington. It has been called a Western, because it takes place in Mississippi circa 1860. This film is about a freed slave who partners with a bounty hunter, and also searches for his wife, who was sold to a different owner. The film was criticized for use of the.
"n-word", but it is about as moving and convincing a statement against slavery as had ever been made. The film is full of violence and blood, like many Tarantino movies, but none of it was gratuitous or unnecessary. This is a great movie in a time where the film business has been in a prolonged slump. The film is highly entertaining, gripping, riveting, heart-wrenchingly moving, and probably the best movie made in the previous 10 years. Tarantino's method of story-telling, and his use of high comedy to clearly expose the foolishness of human actions, harken one back to the great Mark Twain. With this film, Tarantino has solidified his place as the preeminent director of this era, and proven that he is a true genius.
