Review of Django Unchained (2012) by Campbell P — 30 Mar 2015

If I had to describe Django Unchained in one word it'd be spectacular! What a wonderful experience! Django Unchained had an amazing cast consisting of but not limited to Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L Jackson, and a really awesome Jonah Hill cameo.

The acting was really top notch, I couldn't ask for a more perfect performance by Christoph Waltz. His character was so great on every scale. He started off the film with a literal bang and boy did that bang of his gun leave a mark.

He was a savior, he was a skilled bounty hunter, and brought justice. I was really blown away at the cast's acting and I really can't say enough good things about them without filling out the rest of this review.

The character structure was really deep actually, I found out a lot about Steven with the amount of screen time he actually had and he wasn't in there a ton like Dr Schultz or Django. Quentin Tarantino put so much background on these characters I feel like I know them.

All the cast is out in this 2 hour 45 minute masterpiece that has a really well put together story about redemption and determination for freedom. From beginning to end this film was a delight to watch.

If 12 Years a Slave was way more gory and fun you'd have Django Unchained pretty much. Not to say I didn't have fun with 12 Years a Slave because I did and these are two very different slavery films.

Like all great movies, Django Unchained is very quotable and has a lot of very memorable scenes and that's really how a movie should be. The director needs people watching to be invested in the characters and the story they are involved in and Tarantino did that perfectly like he did in Pulp Fiction.

The movie also has something I didn't expect and that is a real sense of dark humor. The scene with the bagheads was really funny and even some conversations Django had with Schultz were pretty humorous.

The deaths of the villains in the movie no matter how big a character they were was satisfying as hell, especially in the last scene of the movie. In my opinion, if a film can make you on the edge of your seat with suspense, make you laugh, give you a real sense of adventure, and even make you emotional its a phenomenal movie.
