Review of Django Unchained (2012) by David S — 22 Dec 2015
Django Unchained is a classic Tarantino movie, blending powerful music with mosaic scenes and wonderfully scripted dialogue. Splicing the scenes to create a certain rhythm and story is a talent of Tarantino's rampant in his recent movies.
However, he almost pushes his limits here by over-glorifying himself and overlooking the small things. He is getting cocky and too sure of himself. There was not as much deliberate calculation as seen in Inglorious Bastards and Reservoir Dogs.
The ending is too nicely wrapped up, with a cliche close. Yes this could be a nod to the spaghetti westerns' styles, however, the ease of success becomes too implausible and detracts from the story's validity.
That said, Foxx, DiCaprio and Waltz stole the show and deserve all accolades for their performances. A movie rife with talent on many ends and executed in a nearly perfect way.
