Review of Django Unchained (2012) by David B — 13 Feb 2016
It's not fair to say this is better than Tarantino's other films, it's certainly not better than Pulp Fiction, but this is certainly up there with his best, it really is Tarantino's best for ages, absolutely not to be missed.
As in all of Tarantino's best films, there is a strange and brilliant magic at work here; a dark, bubbling alchemy of art and junk. A lot of Critic's say Jamie Foxx is a tad flat but I think he does a good job, it's not his best performance but rather acceptable and does his best within the character.
Christoph Waltz is again amazing here as Dr. King Schultz and fully deserved his Oscar, Leonardi DiCaprio is brilliant here, probably his best performance for a while and then theirs Samuel L. Jackson, who I believed was over looked by the Oscars, another perfect contribution in a Tarantino film.
Quentin really brings out the best in his actors and has full trust, this is including the co-stars and a funny turn by Jonah Hill in what is probably the funny scene stealing part of the film. Dark humour and bloody gun fight battles and one that's not for everybody, the director never backs down and this is what he's great at, no boundaries, but the story is a wonderful, if not familer, plot.
QT has done it again. I look forward to his next film, another western.
