Review of Django Unchained (2012) by Tristan M — 06 Sep 2015
My favourite Quentin Tarantino movie thus far of the limited amount that I've seen. I was expecting something kinda more like Inglorious Bastards, and in a way I did as it has the same feel, length, and gore, but a petty pace and story.
The worst thing with Inglorious Bastards is the unbearably slow pace, as scenes last way to long with nothing happening, then of course the plot and unrealistic nature of the movie jut made me hate it, not leaving a good impression on me of Quentin.
But I was impressed my this one. The story is far more interesting, better played out, and engaging. The acting is good, and the script is good also, with many notable quotes. Scenes do go on for long times at parts, but have stuff going ok that keeps us interesting at least and plays a role in the film, making for a good story with developed characters.
The characters are pretty badass for the most part, or funny, or just interesting, but all have a place in a movie that covers a grand expanse of North America. The action is of course what gives Quentin his name in all of his movies, this one maybe more than others.
The mass use of overdone blood and the sounds it makes as a body absorbs a bullet, however unrealistic, is awesome to watch making for some of the most bloody, different, yet fun to watch shootouts I've seen.
Just the blood left over in the house after the shoutout must have been gallons, all down the walls, floor, and simply everywhere. The rest of the effects and stuff to make the shootout good where there too so it was quite entertaining, but not in a bad way.
The ending was again a massive explosion with most people dying, and Django walking off with his rescued wife. Typical Quentin movie, but a good fun watch with a good story, characters and acting, even if some scenes where a bit slow or long, but it was entertaining none the less.
