Review of Django (1966) by Ryan W — 26 Jun 2011
I LOVED THIS! There have been so many imitations; so many wannabes and reproductions of the spaghetti Western, but Sergi Corbucci's "Django" is up there with Eastwood's "Man With No Name Trilogy" as one of the best of the genre.
Tarantino has been highly influenced by this movie and it shows (there's a scene where a clergyman gets his ear cut off and shoved down his throat). He even plans to make a movie called "DJANGO UNCHAINED" starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson for a release date of Christmas 2012.
From Franco Nero's whiskery face, cryptic presence, and tightened gaze, it's no wonder why Clint Eastwood was picked for Sergio Leone's movies, both men have a tough grittiness to them just by an expression, the way they clinched their cigarettes between their teeth, or by the quick draw of their guns. Nero is an absolute badass in this--- armed either with his six-shooters or a gatling gun he hides inside a coffin.
Highly recommend the movie.
