Review of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002) by Jason D — 11 Aug 2007
A warning to all Ya-Yas of the world: the books are waaaaay better. But, the cast still does a good job portraying the crazy Southern characters I love so much. Ashley Judd was especially convincing as Vivi Walker.
The Ya-Yas themselves do a good job, but sometimes their southern accents are a little strained. Of course, one of the Ya-Yas, Caro, is played by Dame Maggie Smith, who is British. So imitating a southern accent might have been a little difficult.
Still, she pulled it off well. Like all books-made-into-movies, a lot of the details are cut. But they are replaced by new ones that are funny, sweet and touching. It's a good movie to watch with the girls! One more warning: this is more of a dramady than a comedy, but it's still good!
