Review of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002) by Lisandrea W — 12 Dec 2007
Read the book years before seeing the film--that distance was good, b/c I came to the movie having forgotten so much, and not being a loyalist to the text. Therefore, I enjoyed it quite a bit! Most importantly, It was the mother-daughter unraveling that helped me see myself as a mother to my daughter, and as a daughter to my mom--where understanding of context is so often missing in the way we all judge each other, generation upon generation.
OH! To have such friends to rescue and comealongside in the desperate moments.
