Review of Divertimento (2000) by Olivier D — 25 Mar 2009

This film has many similar themes to punchier and commerical fare, such as Frida and Vicky Christina Barcelona, but is much colder, much more restrained, meditative, distant, elliptical, and I'll just say it, *longer*.

I liked it, of course in large part because Béart's is so remarkably easy on the eyes, but the film does have a lot to say about identity, eroticism, and mutuality. It's a kind of portrait painting as body analysis that takes place.
