Review of Divergent (2014) by J. Scott F — 03 Feb 2015

I had not planned to see this film due to poor reviews, and the consensus that it was merely a Hunger Games rip-off. However, I tuned in on HBO and was pleasantly engrossed and surprised. Yes, it is a rather formulaic film geared towards teens who are trying to find themselves - but I found it to be thought provoking, intense, and rather profound all the same.

I wouldn't certify this fresh, but it certainly isn't rotten. I might have felt differently if I paid to see it at a theatre.
