Review of Divergent (2014) by Tatsuhito K — 09 Mar 2015
The music supervisor of this film must be a huge fan of Ellie Goulding. Her songs always play at the pivotal moments (in the beginning; when the leads kiss; and at the end credits.) Just like any other Neil Burger film, it has a very polished visual style and is, indeed, a beautiful looking film.
However, the entire film feels like a mashup of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, and there's no originality to it. There's an awful lot of training and not much character development. Divergent is occasionally entertaining, but ultimately forgettable.
