Review of Divergent (2014) by Madeline S — 11 Feb 2015
I just don't understand how the critics can ruin an absolutely good movie?
If the movie isn't a "10" then they ruin it.
You know, some of us just go to a movie to be entertained for a few hours...good acting and a decent film can still spirit one away to a different place for a few hours and not have to be so spiritual and illuminating to make us happy for a few hours.
I'm not a critic but I love movies. I love to watch them and feel "something" for a few hours.
I try not to listen to the critics...take in point Trancendence with Johnny Dep, a very good movie, which flopped at the box office. However, a winner at the box office was.
"Her" a movie that just left me cold.
My point, movies and why we like them or don't, have everything to do with individuality and while a lot of us may like one thing more than most, it seems so ridiculous to me that Divergent is any different than Hunger Games.
A critic, with their art of prose and having seen a thousand flicks or, for that matter, posses a degree of higher learning from the University of Movie Critique may differ from my point of view. However, there is no University for Critics and, in the end, it is our thoughts and feelings, for whatever reason, that dictate whether we like or dislike a movie.
I hate the fact that "Monuments Men" flopped at the box office or "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" is a relatively unheard of flick by anyone I meet. I didn't love the movie "No" but loved "Instructions not Included".
My list goes on and on and this critique is not meant to usurp anyone's opinion.
However, this movie was well done and I enjoyed it immensely as well did my son.
I think it's just as good as the "Hunger Games", if not better.
See it if you can.
