Review of Divergent (2014) by Ilsa W — 27 May 2015
I wanted to like this since the trailer came out. Thought it would be as good as the Hunger Games saga. Boy was I disappointed. All we see for the first hour is a chick training herself to be a bad girl, and with minimal assistance (at least in the movie, not sure about the book, never read it) from Four, she becomes a skilled warrior.
Then we see some dream like worlds where people face their fears, only to get around those fears in not so much of a unique way. The end of the film is blah blah blah. It was predictable, as if I could see the future before it happened with this movie.
I am glad I rented this movie rather than buying it. I don't have hope for this franchise, especially since the sequel got bad reviews as well. I don't think I will see Insurgent based on this film, and the ratings of both films.
I will stick to the Hunger Games, which is more fun.
