Review of Disturbing Behavior (1998) by Vinnie B — 20 Jul 2006
Of all the lame teen-slashers that came out in the wake of 'Scream', Disturbing Behavior stands tall as the best of them. In some respects, its not a good film- it tries so hard to appeal to teenagers its' sometimes painful to watch, with its hilariously made-up teen slang like "razor", plus James Marsden is clearly 26 and not 17 as the movie wants you to believe.
But, thjat's part of the fun, that shit comes across as a great b-movie. But there's A-List stuff here, too: the plot in genuinely involving, gripping, and creepy. Plus, this film is excellently atmospheric, very good directing from David Nutter.
And you feel the paranoia. Plus the cast is great, despite the age issues. Now, the story could've used some more padding and substance as to where some of the characters came from, its' a little too fast-paced for its own good (the dvd has deleted scenes that should've stayed in the movie), but in the end, DB is an excellent, paranoia-themed teen thriller that's a blast to watch.
Recommended.
