Review of Disturbing Behavior (1998) by Todd S — 29 Nov 2006
This movie really seemed to borrow, or at least it tries to borrow, the paranoia induced atmosphere of much better films such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Stepford Wives (the original), and some of the body replacing alien invasion films like the original Invaders From Mars. I say it TRIES to because it really doesn?t achieve that atmosphere at all. All it does is make us viewers roll our eyes and think, ?Yeah sure, here in the modern world the murders and violent outbreaks would just be explained away and blow over.? After that we?d laugh heartily and you?d all take me out and buy me dinner. No? Ok, I tried..
Seriously, the ?Stepford Student? plot line really seems quite implausible. With that part (the main element) of the plot not working, the rest of the film is just an exercise in futility. The actors don?t really carry their roles beyond the basic recital of the script. None of them really create a character that I care about. The sound track doesn?t do much. It?s there, really it is, but that?s all it is. The special effects do their job. They, like the music score, are just their and don?t elevate the film up to anything that would make it more interesting. All put together, the movie fails to be worth the time it takes to watch it..
