Review of Disturbia (2007) by Sandra V — 04 May 2014
For a thriller this film has a bit of a slow mid-section, where more emphasis is placed on Kale's awkward but sweet attempts to win over the girl next door and not enough mystery as to what is going on next door.
But the shocking last act is genuinely scary and all the more riveting because the characters have been well-developed and you care about them. LeBeouf once again shows that looks aren't the most important factor for that elusive x-factor that makes an actor a star, David Morse enjoys playing against his nice-guy type and Carrie-Anne Moss is a believably level-headed onscreen mother and widow who for once isn't either hysterically yelling or crying quietly in another room over her husband's photo.
