Review of Disturbia (2007) by Ivan M — 03 May 2012
Not bad in terms of being a remake of one of Hitchcock's finest films. It's an entertaining movie and the acting is okay. The style of direction and lighting is not unique in comparison to most modern blockbusters.
The problem with it is that it is completely lacking what Rear Window did so tremendously. The build-up of tension is not done artistically or innovatively, there are simply cheap scares after cheap scares, every five minutes there being a moment where the characters are in potentially mortal danger, but then it turns out that they left the television on for example, I'm sure you all know the kind of scene I'm referring to.
A good enough film in terms of entertainment but not artistically and does not hold a candle to the 1950s classic on which it is based.
