Review of District B13 (2004) by Elaine J — 13 Oct 2009
As long as you're not allergic to subtitles, this is a great little thriller. The opening scene has some great 'free running' - a sport widely popular in Europe which involves amazing acrobatics and climbing skills which will have you on the edge of your seat.
Away from the slick action of LA movies this presentation goes a long way to show how with this much effort, a thin plot can still be entertaining and impressively shot. Lots of high tech camera spins and arcs makes for a busy screen. Add the dynamics of excellently choreographed fight sequences, not too far removed from Chan, but with a brutal edge, and we have a sustainable film that should satisfy those who like raw action. Popcorn film or Political statement? I'll let you decide that for yourselves. Highly recommend anyone who appreciates films with people doing their own stunts.
