Review of District B13 (2004) by Jarrett M — 11 Apr 2012
I will admit that going into this film, I wasn't expecting a lot. But, this proved to be an extremely entertaining action film, well worth seeing for anyone who likes a solid action movie. District 13 isn't going to dazzle you with in depth characters, or an intricate and well developed plot, or even outstanding performances.
But that's not really the reason you go to an action movie, is it? What this does well is provide you with several fast and very real-feeling action sequences that will impress; both in the visceral feel of the shooting and in the stunts themselves.
The action is accompanied by the pounding beats of French hip-hop, which compliments the on screen action nicely. Also noteworthy is the chemistry between the 2 lead actors. As mentioned, the finer points of film making such as plot and acting are on the back-burner, although they are present enough to make the movie a movie rather than a highlight reel.
Well worth a look for any action fan that is looking for something a bit different than the Hollywood norm.
