Review of District 9 (2009) by Harpreet S — 09 Feb 2013
Neill Blomkamp's "District 9" could have been one of the better science-fiction films to date, maybe even a great one. Its visual structure impressed me a ton, also how much ground the camera covers.
The last shot of the film suggests a love story but the director never really explores it beforehand, there is no real base for it. It's conflicted in knowing what to do with its massive potential.
Copley's character Wikus van de Merwe is the main lead; he seems like a version of Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat. Very funny at times, also greatly admired the special effects and the management of so many people in one movie.
It's a treat for the eyes, not a challenge for the brain.
