Review of District 9 (2009) by James B — 11 Feb 2013
Simply put; it's bad ass. Smart and so satisfying it felt sinful. Incorporating a documentary look and feel while keeping grass roots in science fiction and action gave District 9 a distinct and original style that has me wanting to watch this movie again and again.
It felt like a mix between Starship Troopers and Black Hawk Down. With just enough character, emotion, a touch of humor, and loads of sociological comparisons and action. Just for all you queazy pussies; the shaky camera wasn't so shaky and never even got close to the "Cloverfield" or "Bourne" movie nausea.
It was classic action science fiction done in a whole new way. Reminded me of the first time I saw Terminator 2 (so much violent action but I still wound up "feeling" something). Couldn't be more happy.
