Review of District 9 (2009) by Donna E — 13 Jun 2013
Anyone who saw this film and thought it was ok, or no big deal must be because they are Joe Schmoe moviegoer and not a real film lover. They A) Go see whatever the newest movie is (probably see everything playing) and/or B) Heard this was such a great movie, they had to judge for themselves.
I had been waiting for this film ever since I first read about it in the UK film mags and started seeing the bus stop signs for "Humans Only". SO glad it was made in the gritty, documentary style, NO 'name' actors involved, and foreign made.
If this was made in Hollywood I can only imagine that disaster it could have been. You can relate the outcast society and racism to so many real life events in history, it's actually heartbreaking.
I had a knot in my heart the whole film, the intensity runs from beginning to end! I may have to see it again to catch some of the things I missed in the beginning when my brain was bombarded. Go see with an open mind, and please don't see if you are not an open minded lover of great film.
