Review of District 9 (2009) by Intuciic . — 21 Apr 2013
One of the best sci-fi movies of all time, probably what stands out the most is the original concept and the realism that Neill Blomkamp (the director) gives to this film, the way he approaches the nature of humans against the unknown (the aliens) is even socially controversial.
Shartlo Copley gives an amazing performance as Wikus van de Merwe and you see him struggle to cure himself and safe Christopher Johnson (the alien) which is another strong point in this movie, how much heart is put into making this aliens have emotions and feelings about surviving against this beasts that are us humans.
I can't give enough credit to how awesome and cool the alien tech and the special effects look, it's so realistic to the point of looking like this is a true story... And a lot of the film is told through a documentary shot by the department of MNU (in the film is an agency created to study the life and psychology of the aliens), the only gripe that people might have with this is that there's a lot of blood and gore (which is fun to look at) that may not apply to the overall flaw of the movie but I personally don't.
Overall I think this an extremely original and thought provoking film with a very likable and relatable protagonist and a movie that explores a lot of unknown grounds on the sci-fi/alien-invasion genre.
