Review of District 13: Ultimatum (2009) by Bj W — 09 Aug 2009
Yipes! What a disappointment. The first one wasn't that great but the parkour action was cool and that's all I really expect. This movie was just a half-hearted rehash of the first film. It harkens back to the days when sequels would just re-cut old footage + add a couple new scenes. The same locations were used, the plot seemed to be pretty much the same the action scenes were indistinguishable.
The most frustrating aspect of enduring this mess was the editing. The amazing stunts, which these guys can actually do, were chopped up as if it was some skinny starlet who can barely lift her own leg trying to perform these sequences. It was hard to see the movement + the cuts were so short that all of the effort put into the coordination of the stunts was wasted. The director + editor should be severely reprimanded for their failures.
I do like topic of dealing with the slums located around Paris, which is a major problem France (or anywhere in the world) has yet to solve, but portraying gang leaders, who profit from drugs, in order to buy weapons so that they can control through fear, the saviors of the city is not just silly, but irresponsible.
