Review of District 13: Ultimatum (2009) by Malachi M — 20 May 2012
Following the path of Ong Bak, D13U utterly fails to recapture the excitement and pace of the original as the filmmakers indulge themselves in wordier plot and some of the worst over-edited fight scenes.
You know you are in trouble when the dramatic build of the opening leads to zero action and the first fight scene is so choppy and tightly framed it looks like the very capable actors aren't actually able to do the stunts. Worse still there are only 3 action sequences and the final one has by far the worst editing I've ever seen (a female character gets edited mid every move and breaks any sense of skill or realism). A horrible disappointment.. oh and the English dub hasn't improved either with London accents and American pronunciation.
