Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Parker S — 22 Jun 2012
Dirty Harry is an American classic and is one of my favorite crime films and Clint Eastwood films. What seperates this film from other crime movies is Eastwood's performace as Harry Callahan, who is, simply put, one of the biggest badasses ever in cinema.
That's why we love heroes such as Indiana Jones, James Bond, or Yoda, because in one way or another we just love seeing them strike fear into their enemies. Clint Eastwood really makes the character his own and does his 'I don't take any crap" performance really well.
The story was based off the Zodiac murders, and if the real Zodiac killer had met Clint Eastwood well then things may have happened differently. We are highly entertained by the film and how they handle the search for the criminal, we are given tension and they really give us the perfect image of a hero in search of a psychopath.
Dirty Harry is one of the greatest crime thrillers of all time, and this vast world of crime was the inspiration for some of the great crime thrillers we see in modern cinema.
