Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Joe B — 20 Jan 2010
Yes yes...total classic. However, re watching it for the fourth or fifth time I begin to see that the film hasn't exactly aged well. It's padded with a lot of extraneous storylines that occupy the first 40 or so minutes -- only proving that the film didn't have enough central story to carry it through. Eastwood is perfect as Harry Callahan and Andy Robinson is crazy enough to pull off the role of the Scorpio Killer (obviously created to cash in on the hype of the Zodiac Killer that as active at the time this film was made).
If you haven't seen it...you owe it to yourself to take it in. It's too bad the filmmakers couldn't have been content with making an 85/90 minute movie and left the extra stuff on the cutting room floor.
