Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Ann D — 20 Jun 2010
THe soundtrack is amazing. Funky, percussive, riveting. Easily the best part of hte movie is the score. The story: expendable cat-and-mouse serial killer stuff without much subtext or nuance. The film doesn't really work as a cop procedural nor a grim thriller.
The film has style and is entertaining, for the most part, but I wish Harry had more of an interior life, and I frankly didn't find him to be as charismatic as I would have expected. Popcorn entertainment that hasn't quite passed the test of time.
