Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Nick G — 15 Jul 2010
Apparently all of the masculinity in the city of San Francisco is contained within Harry Callahan's body. Clint Eastwood carries the majority of the movie by himself. Moreso than any other action star, I think Eastwood is able to channel a certain smoothness to his badassery. He can be sarcastically ripping you to pieces, but if you're not paying really close attention, you might not realize it--just because he's so charming.
Andrew Robinson is fantastic as Scorpio. He's really able to walk the line between a normal guy, craziness, and outright evil.
Lalo Schifrin does some great work with the soundtrack, especially during early scenes with Scorpio. The jazzy, sorta hip drumming really sets the mood for me.
