Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Sidney S — 15 Feb 2012
In what is known to be his most famous role, Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry is truly an enticing and gritty police drama. The story itself and the dark scenery help bring to life the film and its truly dark atmosphere.
Clint Eastwood is great as the badass no nonsense cop Harry Callahan, the intensity he brings to the role such as the way he wields his magnum and the lines he delivers, " 'do I feel lucky?' well do ya punk?" is great.
The sniper story was simple and easy to get into and you feel Harry's frustration when the SFPD disavowed of his actions to take in the criminal. The film's climatic ending was suspenseful and edge of your seat action.
The film itself was also well paced, great scenery and the perfect inclusion of background music to help bring forth the tone. A great, gritty cop drama that no doubt set the standards for other films in the genre to follow.
