Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Andrew B — 01 Feb 2013
Now I didn't think this would be my kind of movie, believing it would just be blood, gore, violence, grittiness, darkness... but it turned out to be a little deeper than that. This is the first movie starring/directed by/produced by Clint Eastwood that I've watched, and after seeing this, I think I might consider watching more of his stuff now.
(SPOILERS FOLLOW).
One thing I thought about near the end of the film was how it came to have a theme similar to that in 2009's "Law Abiding Citizen" (which I also enjoyed, actually), about how "the law" is really, when you get right down to it, bullcrap. I wonder if the producers of that 2009 film were inspired by that little twist used here, 38 years earlier.
Overall, it's not a very "happy" film, but for some reason I still really enjoyed it. 4/5 stars.
