Review of Dirty Grandpa (2016) by Rod H — 31 Jan 2016
Conflicting emotions ran rampant through me as I watched arguably the best actor of our generation getting laughs by saying the "F-word" in every sentence and doing a running gag about sticking his thumb up Zac Efron's butt.
Critics are trashing this movie, because of DeNiro and the way he is used, however there is no denying he oozes charisma and he parlays his tough guy "Meet the Fockers"-style character for all it's worth.
I completely enjoyed the chemistry between he and Efron and Efron's descent into debauchery after consuming a near-fatal amount of crack made me laugh out loud. Yep, it is Crude with a capital "C" but I have seen much much worse in the last year.
Heck, I'll see this 1,000 times before I sit through "Ride Along 2" again. Zoey Deutch and Aubrey Plaza are actually quite good in their roles and Plaza steals the last 5 minutes of he film.
Not a great, or even good, film but not the seventh sign of the apocalypse either.
